Nigeria Commission Sets Date For 2019 Presidential Election

The commission made the announcement Tuesday while outlining the 2019 general election timetable. As 2019 elections draw near, about 18 young people have indicated interest in the presidency. On that, he owes the APC and the Presidency a special appreciation for the political persecution unleashed against him since his emergence as the Senate President in 2015.

At least 39 political parties have teamed up in a bid to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election in Nigeria election. Nigeria's social media space is generally highly susceptible from manipulation by influential individuals with vested interests and little sense of electoral ethics.

These include southern Nigerian dissidents from Buhari's own party, senior political figures including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as well as members of the People's Democratic Party, which governed Nigeria from 1999 to 2015.

Abubakar told Reuters in May that he hopes to be the main opposition party's presidential candidate. Ahead of his election in 2015, Buhari promised to tackle Boko Haram - an armed group that has carried out a deadly armed campaign for over a decade - as well as fight corruption, revive the economy and provide jobs.

As in politics and elections across the world, social media is set to play a major role in Nigeria's 2019 campaign. Moghalu's Nigeria figure of US$625 million is close to the dollar cost of India's 2014 elections. It is believed that the Presidential ticket of the APC would be picked by the Buhari.

The leadership of the parties are hereby committed to work together in a Coalition of United Political Party (CUPP). This coalition of 38 political parties including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and marginalised members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) have signed Memorandum of Understanding.

Care should however be taken when directly comparing the cost of elections held four years apart and on different continents, Dr Magnus Ohman, a senior political finance adviser at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems , told Africa Check.

Fissures within the APC, a broad coalition formed to oust Buhari's predecessor Goodluck Jonathan rather than pursue a political ideology, have come to the fore in recent months. If elected Nigeria's president, I will expand the nation's source of wealth to cater for the growing youth population in the country.

Kwankwaso, a presidential aspirant under the auspice of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, visited Ayokunle at his office in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. He said the credibility doubt against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deliver high expectations when compare to the relative improved performance in 2015 general elections might spark needless violence by the electorate.

The main opposition PDP has faced similar infighting to the APC since 2015. All the Presidential aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have signed an undertaking to work together and accept whoever emerges the candidate of the party for the 2019 general elections.

The arrowhead of the pact is said to have started mounting pressure on the two APC governors in Nigeria and has continued with the pressure during the ongoing visit of the President to China. Campaigning for the re-election of a president in Nigeria has often started with such support groups before the incumbent declares his intention to run again.
